Pinterest has an information overload problem. The popular visual whiteboard platform now has hundreds of millions of boards and tens of billions of Pins, representing a treasure trove of project ideas, how-to guides, travel tips, and more—but one that's becoming increasingly difficult for Pinners to efficiently navigate to find what might be most useful and relevant to their interests.
The good news is that Pinterest is tackling that problem. The social corkboard on Thursday introduced Guided Search, a discovery engine that is designed to serve up the offerings of other Pinners in more digestible chunks for users.
Guided Search adds another discovery tool for Pinterest users, who are already able to enter queries in the site's built-in search engine available in both the desktop and mobile versions of the site. The new engine offers a more probing, open-ended alternative to that straightforward search mechanism, presenting discovery paths based on a query for users to explore rather than just a ranked list of top hits laid out on a results page
